Explore the Selby & Friends 2027 season

Natalie Chee and Clancy Newman reunite once again for this marvellous program of firsts – two great Russian composers who straddle the late Romantic and early 20th Century, and Beethoven’s early yet masterful foray into the piano trio genre.

Shostakovich was just 17 when he composed the first of only two piano trios he would ever write. Beethoven was still finding his feet in Vienna as both pianist and composer with his Opus 1 piano trios and Arensky’s famously passionate and turbulent first piano trio made him a household name.
