Spotlight: Alexander Gavrylyuk

There is a bond that develops between musicians over time, an unspoken connection that allows them to play as one. After nearly 20 years of collaboration, that bond exists between pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk and the musicians of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra – and you will witness it firsthand in this exquisite concert.

Bach’s Fifth Piano Concerto covers entire worlds in ten brief but perfect minutes – its slow movement one of the most beautiful things he ever wrote. Mozart is at his brilliant best in his Piano Concerto No.21 and in Gavrylyuk we have a soloist up for the challenge.

Then, Mozart’s genius leaps off the page of his Symphony No.36. Though written in just a few days, it is rich, ambitious and fully fleshed-out, with the brilliance and levity that is quintessential Mozart.

These works benefit from an intimate, collaborative relationship between musicians – which makes City Recital Hall the perfect room for them.
