ARIA Award-winning producer Dan Rankine, aka trials, brings his debut solo project hendle to life in our intimate ground floor bar.
Hailing from Adelaide, trials has built an extraordinary career with 2× Double Platinum and 10× Gold records, alongside 4 ARIA Awards and multiple nominations. His work spans film, television and music, with credits alongside some of Australia’s most respected artists including Drapht, Gurrumul, Archie Roach, Hilltop Hoods, Paul Kelly, Thelma Plum and more.
As one half of A.B. Original, trials helped shape one of the most important voices in contemporary Australian music, earning accolades such as APRA AMCOS Songwriter of the Year, triple j Album of the Year and the Australian Music Prize.
Now, hendle marks a powerful new chapter. A groundbreaking multidisciplinary project, hendle unfolds across album, memoir and visual art series — each piece working together to tell a deeply personal story of identity, resilience and cultural legacy.
The album is raw and reflective, weaving through themes of family, survival and self, with unflinching lyricism and genre-defying production. Tracks like ‘…then I got dressed’ and ‘6 letter word’ offer moments that are both intimate and universally resonant.
Extending beyond music, the hendle visual art series translates these stories onto canvas — bold acrylic works that honour family, culture and lived experience.
‘what’s the colour of love’ is an immersive exhibition drawn from hendle, bringing together sound, story and visual art in one space.
