Sultry & Sample

For three years, Sultry & Sample has been quietly building something rare — a monthly gathering that has sold out 13 consecutive shows, not through hype, but through word of mouth, repeat crowds, and the kind of nights people actually remember. Now, for the first time, it takes the stage at City Recital Hall.

At its core, Sultry & Sample is a genre-blending live music collective rooted in spontaneity, soul, and connection. A community of resident artists and special guests — from Sydney’s most exciting emerging talent to international collaborators — come together to create something that cannot be replicated, streamed, or scheduled in advance. Every show is fully improvised: a live-produced soundscape that moves through R&B, funk, nu-jazz, Afro-house, nostalgic cuts and future sounds, shaped entirely by the energy of the room and the moment it’s in.

The production is designed as an immersive, Boiler Room-style setup — artists performing sunken in the round, fully encapsulated by the crowd on all sides. No stage separation. No barrier between the musicians and the people surrounding them. The energy moves in both directions, building something together in real time.

This is an 18+ event. Please note all tickets are general admission standing.

City Recital Hall is a three-level venue. Once Level 1 fills up, guests will be directed to higher levels subject to capacity limits. When areas reach capacity we operate a one-in-one-out policy.
