A rare, all-encompassing jungle and drum & bass experience
Shy FX and Mala join forces in Sydney for a rare, one-night-only performance at City Recital Hall — a meeting of two artists who have shaped the trajectory of British electronic music from completely different angles, yet share the same foundations in sound system culture.
Few figures have influenced UK club music as deeply as Shy FX. Emerging in the early ’90s, he brought Caribbean sound system energy into the rave era, reshaping the landscape with 'Original Nuttah' — a track that didn’t just break through, but changed what breakthrough meant. Across decades and through labels such as Ebony Recordings and Digital Soundboy, his work has spanned reggae, breaks, drum & bass, hip-hop and soul, always evolving, never diluted.
Mala carved a parallel path. As a founding member of DMZ and the force behind Deep Medi Musik, he helped define dubstep’s earliest language — spacious, meditative, and rooted in community. His catalogue balances iconic tracks like 'Anti War Dub' with expansive works such as Mala in Cuba and Mirrors, bridging London with wider global rhythms and spiritual depth.
Together, they represent two sides of a shared lineage. This is not nostalgia — it’s a live conversation between visionaries still shaping the sound of today. Expect low-end power, movement, and a masterclass in UK bass culture, past and future.
This is an 18+ event. Please note all tickets are general admission standing.
