Listening to Beethoven’s own wonderful piano trio arrangement of his famous Septet, one gets a real sense of what it must have been like to desperately want to play something at home you had only heard played by many artists publicly.
This tradition of changing the forces to accommodate everyday folk was a prime method for earning a living for composers of note before concert stages became universally popular. The piano trio was a seminal ensemble for sharing in the home and became a vital source of inspiration for composers across the globe including our own Ross Edwards and the great Russian Anton Arensky.
With the incredible and popular Susie Park and Julian Smiles joining Kathy Selby, this truly is a program that encompasses music from far-flung Australia. Russia and of course Vienna by way of Bonn.
