About City Recital Hall

Located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, City Recital Hall is one of Australia’s leading live performance venues. Opened in 1999, it was the first purpose-built music venue established in Sydney since the Sydney Opera House in 1973. The Hall operates as an independent not-for-profit company on behalf of the City of Sydney.

The Hall is renowned as the CBD home of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Musica Viva Australia, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Pinchgut Opera. In recent years, programming has expanded significantly into contemporary music, cabaret, jazz, indie and electronic events, alongside hosting major festivals including Sydney Festival, Vivid Sydney and TEDxSydney.

With utilisation increasing year on year, the Hall is entering a growth phase, focused on financial sustainability, programming diversification and audience expansion.  Directors play an important role in stewarding the Hall’s long-term cultural and civic contribution to the city.

Selection Criteria

The Board is seeking up to three Directors who will contribute strategic oversight and independent governance as the organisation continues to strengthen its financial sustainability, stakeholder partnerships and cultural impact.
