City Recital Hall upgrades visual technology with support from Sound NSW

City Recital Hall is a proud recipient of Sound NSW’s 2025/26 Venue Upgrade Grant (Advanced Screen & Lighting Technology), allowing it to offer a significantly expanded range of visual and video services that are cutting edge, creative and affordable.
Central to the expanded offering is a large-scale flexible LED screen system, alongside high-end broadcast cameras, upgraded video switching equipment and dedicated show computers.
CEO Kate Wickett said that this new equipment will help provide a visual experience that is on par with the exceptional acoustic experience the venue is known for.
“City Recital Hall is the acoustic jewel of Sydney, and these upgrades to our visual and video offerings are a great complement to this. The upgrades will improve the environment for artists, presenters and audiences alike, creating new possibilities for how performances and events can be experienced across the venue.”
Head of Technical Stuart Gregg explained that the new modular LED screen system can be configured in a variety of sizes and formats, including custom layouts and curved designs.
“In the past when clients have required LED technology we have hired it in - a resource-heavy exercise. With 46SQM of the latest LED technology available in-house, we can be far more creative, flexible and cost effective, which ultimately benefits our artists, clients and audiences.”
“The high-res display delivers clearer images, more vibrant colour and better viewing angles, helping audiences feel more immersed in performances across the venue.”
“As a lightweight, modular system it can be used throughout the main Auditorium, whether on the stage, flown above it or stacked at ground level. It can be used in other areas of the venue too, including the foyer, allowing us to expand our thinking around programming and what we can deliver visually throughout the venue.”
“Artists and presenters also benefit, with the new system providing greater creative flexibility; and it’s easier to incorporate large-scale video and visual elements into performances and events, an increasingly critical element of many performances.”
The grant has also supported the purchase of new broadcast-quality cameras which will allow the Hall to provide high-quality live video as well as recording options for clients, while upgraded video switching equipment enables screening of 4K video across multiple displays throughout the venue. New dedicated show computers will provide reliable playback of video and other content for events of all sizes.

The new equipment will be in use from late October 2026.
