Hail Jeff Mills: techno’s greatest ambassador, believer, and innovator. Now the figurehead of the Detroit scene brings his Afrofunk-electro-jazz ensemble, Tomorrow Comes The Harvest feat. Jean-Phi Dary & Prabhu Edouard, to City Recital Hall.

From the underground Detroit club scene in the early ’80s right through to the audio-visual feast of an experience offered up by his most recent conceptual appearances at cinemas, galleries, and museums (including the Louvre), Jeff Mills has proven himself a contemporary pioneer of dance culture. He has rightfully won the complete respect of everyone, even those with only a passing familiarity with what has generally come to be called electronic music.

Tomorrow Comes The Harvest is the accumulative efforts of talented musicians and their visions about what makes the art form of music so special. A pioneering music ensemble that has entranced the globe with its musically unexpected twists and turns, its improvised composition of sounds that go above and beyond the established limits of a DJ set.

A theory initiated and put into action by late Afro Beat creator and Nigerian Drummer Tony Allen and Detroit Techno’s Jeff Mills. Each belonging to a long tradition of using music to reach higher levels of consciousness, along with veteran keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary, the three toured internationally until the untimely death of Tony Allen in 2020. However, the foundation of the concept was cemented and ready for continuation.

Mills reconfigures the concept to function as trio once again and invites Tabla virtuoso Prabhu Edouard to join the concept. A second album was released in September of this year, which they’ve been touring across European festivals and theatres.

Tomorrow Comes The Harvest is about exploring the unknown, transcending by the way of intersecting sounds and rhythm through an array of improvisational movements.

Mills has proven himself as not just one of the founders of Detroit techno, but also as a highly sought after artist in the contemporary music space. Tomorrow Comes The Harvest promises to showcase the best of both worlds, and is an experience not to be missed.

Supporting Jeff Mills is Land Systems

Land Systems is the melodic ambient project of Eora/Sydney-based producer Nathan Moas. His music explores the more ethereal aspects of ambient music by combining slow-evolving melodies with a lush electronic production style. Central to the project is a eurorack modular synthesizer that is sampled and processed alongside computer-based softwares.
