New Constellations

Sun 18 August 3pm, 2019
Berlin-based violinist Jakob Lehmann leads an ensemble of specialist local and international chamber musicians through the expansive sounds and pioneering ideas of New Constellations. The Octet for Strings was written when Mendelssohn was just 16, and illustrates the transformation of performance techniques in the chamber music of the early-Romantic period. Brahms destroyed the nonet version of his Serenade, but based on archives and written accounts, Alan Boustead has brought this original chamber version back to life.

A Voyage Of Musical Discovery 3

Mon 19 August 6.30pm, 2019
Presented in tandem with New Constellations, A Voyage of Musical Discovery 3 teams up the orchestra’s musicians with one of Australia’s most well-established a capella ensembles – The Idea of North. Together they explain and demonstrate the importance of ‘Dynamics & Expressive Techniques’ in the composition and performance of historical as well as Australian contemporary chamber works.
