Ever since its first performance in Leipzig on Good Friday 1724, JS Bach’s setting of the St John Passion has been a mainstay of the musical calendar in both concert hall and church. The Choir and Orchestra of St James’ comprise many of Australia’s foremost Historically Informed Performance instrumentalists and singers. Directed by Warren Trevelyan-Jones, they come together for this oratorio, the older of the two Passions by one of the greatest composers of all time.
This masterpiece of the Baroque marks the launch of Bach@StJames, celebrating the wonder of Bach in the glory of historic Sydney.
