Growing Up in a Cult: A Journey to Skepticism Ruth Ellison
The Scathing Atheists: God Awful Movies Scathing Atheist Podcast
Closing Remarks with ASI President Eran Segev
Day Two, Session Four sees Skepticon tackle an issue that continues to fascinate, divide and dominate discourse: religion and indoctrination. Ruth Ellison will present a unique, poignant and complex look into the reality of growing up in a cult. She’ll be talking about her life in a cult, moving from indoctrinated to finally independent, and giving you an insight into what it’s like growing up in a society that doesn’t allow members to have televisions, females to cut their hair, or anyone to speak of evolution. Following Ruth, the biting and brilliant podcast, The Scathing Atheist, will look into religion more broadly. Noah Lugeons, Eli Bosnick and Heath Enwright will bring their usual snark, skepticism and disdain for everything religious to Sydney with her live podcast The Scathing Atheists: God Awful Movies (Rated R). They’ll be tackling issues across religion and politics in their notorious, no-holds-barred manner. The session will wrap up with a closing address from the Australian Skeptics’ President Eran Segev.
