Inspired by The Sun Ra Arkestra and Afro-futurism, Shabaka and the Ancestors are pushing jazz forward.
Shabaka Hutchings is an acclaimed bandleader and saxophonist on London’s jazz scene; he’s a descendant of the American free jazz tradition and is heavily influenced by African and Caribbean music.
Returning after his scorching Sydney Festival 2017 turn with The Comet Is Coming, Hutchings will be accompanied by South Africa’s best jazz players, The Ancestors.
The ensemble draws from eclectic influences beyond jazz, including central African song structures and traditional Southern African Nguni hymns, plus elements of the blues and Caribbean calypso.
Prepare for jaw-dropping musicianship with the hypnotic vocals and an entirely unique repertoire.
