Following a sell-out season at Griffin Theatre in July, Robyn Archer and her musicians bring her classic ‘French’ cabaret show back to Sydney for one night only.
Robyn Archer embodies the nights of authentic European cabaret with a voice that can lovingly caress at one moment, and then cut through a tough lyric with equal precision. When she delivers this program, audiences are taken back to a time of smoke-filled Parisian cafes where the poetry was passionate and the laughter loud.
Through song, storytelling and a hint of satire, Archer suavely and effortlessly leads audiences on a journey from the nineteenth century streets of Paris and its burgeoning cabaret scene, through a history of popular French song right up to the 1960s. Featuring a selection of rarely-heard works by Aristide Bruant and French greats Piaf, Trenet and Brel, this will be a rare experience to hear Archer reimagine the French repertoire, and ask us ‘what remains ?'
