SSO  Principal Emeritus Bassoon Matthew Wilkie introduces a program of orchestral music that has inspired him during his career.

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Playlist concerts give you a chance to hear short and inspiring programs of classical music – favourites and rarities – personally programmed and introduced by one of the SSO musicians. In this concert, bassoonist Matthew Wilkie combines featured moments for the bassoon with music of deep personal significance, from the “hypochondriac” concerto by baroque composer Zelenka to the bassoon solo in Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony, and the affectionate, elegiac sounds of Elgar’s Romance.

Meet Matthew, hear this wonderful instrument, and enjoy a drink at the bar with the musicians afterwards.
