Playlist with Catherine Hewgill

SSO Principal Cello Catherine Hewgill introduces a program of orchestral music that has inspired her during her career.

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Playlist concerts give you a chance to hear short and inspiring programs of classical music – favourites and rarities – personally programmed and introduced by one of the SSO musicians. In this concert, SSO Principal Cello Katie Hewgill begins with music composed in the same decade as her beloved Carlo Tononi cello: Bach’s Third Brandenburg. And there’s more baroque music with Vivaldi’s virtuoso showcase for two cellos. But it’s not all dazzle: the gentle, songlike third movement from Mendelssohn’s Reformation Symphony is like a musical plea for peace. These are just some of the pieces that have inspired Katie during her career and which she will introduce on the night.

Join us at the bar after the concert for a drink with the musicians!
