François Leleux, one of the great oboists of our time, returns to Sydney in a breezy program with a French theme.
French oboist François Leleux has previously joined the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as a guest principal, and most recently as a soloist and director. In 2018 he returns to conduct as well. For this program Leleux has chosen the spritely wind serenade that was played under Mozart’s window in Vienna and he’s surrounded it with the exquisite sounds of French music. There’s Fauré’s lyrical music for Maeterlinck’s lovers, best known for its rippling Sicilienne, and Bizet’s exuberant Symphony in C, composed when he was just 17. And a new arrangement of Debussy’s saxophone rhapsody will display Leleux’s sublime cor anglais playing.
