After a massive sell-out show at City Recital Hall last year, Monsieur Camembert returns with their critically acclaimed show based on the music and poetry of iconoclastic Canadian songwriter Leonard Cohen. Drawing on material that spans some 35 years, Monsieur Camembert's entirely original interpretations traverse styles rarely (if ever) associated with Cohen, including swing, jazz, tango, Latin, klezmer and more. Linking the songs with Cohen's remarkable poetry and prose, the show also features audio fragments of Cohen himself.
For 11 years, three-time ARIA-award-winning Monsieur Camembert has been touring this show, playing capacity concert halls nationally and internationally, including headlining the International Leonard Cohen Festival in Canada. For this unmissable City Recital Hall event, the 11-piece line-up will celebrate the life, music and words of Leonard Cohen with special guests Abby Dobson, Diana Rouvas, Joseph Tawadros and others to be announced.
"Simultaneously generates fresh perspectives on Cohen’s astonishing work and exposes deeper truths. A must for Cohen and Camembert fans alike... " (John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald)
"If you like Leonard Cohen, you ought to hear Monsieur Camembert’s Famous Blue Cheese… Spirited, musically assured, eclectic and downright fun. They never imitate Cohen, but do right by him, with glee and sensitivity." (Weekend Planet, ABC Radio National)
