Hear Daniil Trifonov – an exciting young Russian piano virtuoso – in his Sydney debut recital, playing music that’s both thrilling and poetic.
Daniil Trifonov is young (he turns 26 the day before this recital) but he has already taken the musical world by storm – winning multiple prizes in the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition, capturing the affection of audiences and leaving critics scrambling for superlatives. He’s a product of the Russian school with the rich sound and thrilling technique you’d expect. Add to that an engaging humility and an uncanny ability to draw a vast palette of colours from the piano and reveal emotional subtleties in the music he plays. For his Sydney recital debut, Trifonov has built a program around narratives of innocence and nostalgia, beginning with the exquisite miniature tone poems that Schumann does so well and ending with the spectacular suite from Petrushka that Stravinsky composed for Arthur Rubinstein.
