Songs of the Black Arm Band is the stunning new production from Australia’s leading contemporary Aboriginal music collective, Black Arm Band.
Premiering to wide acclaim at Dark Mofo last year, Songs of the Black Arm Band brings together music from the collective’s 10 year history, including songs from iconic shows Murundak (Sydney Festival 2008) and dirtsong.
Charismatic soul singer Emma Donovan leads an 8-strong ensemble of singers and musicians, including virtuoso didgeridoo player Mark Atkins and vocalist Deline Briscoe.
With an eye to the future, Songs of the Black Arm Band also stars Yirrmal Marika who’s performance in Sydney Festival’s 1967: Music in the Key of Yes earlier this year wowed audiences and critics.
“The unquestionable standout was Yirrmal, who sung all his songs in language.” The Guardian
“Arnhem Land's Yirrmal Marika, a grandson of Yothu Yindi's Dr Yunupingu, stood out. His wailing, braying, beautiful singing, whether on traditional or non-traditional material, drew us into the riches of this ancient culture with thrilling impact.” Sydney Morning Herald
