Simulacra
Simulacra explores a world of musical doubles; real, imagined and imperfect. Centred around the twisting patterns of Lachlan Skipworth’s palindromic reverse-canon Intercurrent, the program explores the unique sonic formation of bass clarinet, percussion and piano. American composer John Supko’s This Window Makes Me Feel conjures a unique and touching portrait of humanity by compiling hundreds of answers to the title phrase through repeated google searches. Olivia Davies’ Intimate Distance floats between states of familiarity and detachment as the ensemble shadow an evocative electronic track built from a single marimba sample. Ripples of sound peel out in overlapping permutations at the opening of Hannah Lash’s C, a brief yet electrifying duo for vibraphone and piano.
