Crowds gather to inspire a choreographer's final chunky moves

"A SMALL scar on his lower lip is the only reminder of a brutal attack two decades ago that threatened the career of one of Australia's most acclaimed choreographers.

Gideon Obarzanek was walking along a street in Surry Hills on a Tuesday night when he was mugged and knocked unconscious.

''I woke up in hospital with my lip split open and the back of my head opened up as well,'' Obarzanek says. ''I don't remember anything about it. In a way, I was lucky to be alive, lucky not to be brain damaged from that.'' "
