Events - October 2014
Tracing a mystical and imaginary traveller throughout Europe, this is a musical journey reflecting the riches, mysteriousness, influences and exotic sound of the far away Orient. Inspired by sacredness and the glorious sounds of Chant, as well as the artistic movements of the Oriental Baroque, the music will be a creative meditation, dominated by the plaintive sounds and exciting tapestry of the Ottoman Baroque.
The Greenway Series (formerly the Conductors’ Series), named in honour of the original architect of the Conservatorium building, is our premier orchestral program and provides an opportunity for talented young musicians to present classical masterpieces through to new and exciting works.
LTN turns TEN! This year’s concert promises to be the biggest yet with some of Australia’s top artists joining us to celebrate this monumental occasion. The Light the Night Benefit Concert is inspired by Matthew Rennie and his three year battle with leukaemia. This annual event has raised over $400,000 for leukaemia research and cancer patient resources. Monies raised from this year’s concert will fund the Light the Night Research Grant undertaken by St Vincent’s Hospital.
PLEASE NOTE this event is held at the Sydney Conservatorium of music, Music Workshop. 2014 marks the inaugural year of Hatched—a unique opportunity for one composer and one performer to work closely with Ensemble Offspring’s Artistic Directors and musicians. Two outstanding candidates were chosen from a very competitive round of applicants and these are Sydney based composer (and jazz saxophonist) Jeremy Rose and Callum G’Froerer—a genre hopping trumpeter hailing from Perth and based in Melbourne.
